Community Organizing Training with Rev. Catoya Roberts

ISAAC would like to send a sincere thank you to Rev. Catoya Roberts for facilitating two powerful and awesome community organizing training sessions for new and veteran ISAAC family members! Participants learned/revisited the principles of organizing, one-on-ones, power analysis and issues planning.

Heartfelt gratitude to Steve, Rev. Mary and the St. Martin of Tours Family for their hospitality on Saturday and to Dr. Regena, Miriam, Rev. Gy and the UUCC Family for their hospitality on Sunday!  A special thank you to Brother M’artise the owner of Serious Photography, LLC for capturing our awesome moments! A sincere thank you to Ms. Pat for the wonderful Davis Delectables & Designs lunches!

Rev. Catoya was listed numerous times as an excellent presenter who facilitated an excellent workshop!

After the workshop family attendees described they were feeling:

  • The need for racial justice.
  • All of it.  The training was amazing.
  • No permanent friends, no permanent enemies.
  • What organizing is about
  • Who needs to talk with this group,  Choosing the most appropriate colleague to build partnerships, involve someone in “strategy”.  Planning a full strategy for an effective campaign.
  • It takes all of us doing our own pieces of the work.
  • Importance of standing together on issues for community
  • Being with others
  • It was fulfilling to have a 1-1 with someone with whom I was very superficially acquainted.
  • How to start having conversations.
  • Fishbowl 1 on 1
  • Everything
  • The strength and connections of ISAAC.
  • The 1 on 1’s
  • Hit the main points, great pace, very helpful review of bias, facilitated learning while engaging everyone.

  • To bring the youth to city meetings and other voting sessions
  • To push for more accountability from not just elected officials, but also those who hold power

  • One-on-ones with people related to my task force.  To develop relationships in my congregation to build/broaden commitment to ISAAC
