“ISAAC is a respectable, responsible, caring group of people who help to lead Kalamazoo in the right direction! They have also helped me get onto the road of success!” –Travontae McFerrin-Brown, 2016 Phoenix High School Graduate and KVCC student
In a 2015 community listening campaign, residents shared concerns for the lives and futures of our youth. We are happy to announce ISAAC’s Future Leaders For Peace Program (FLFP), birthed out of our Youth Violence Prevention (YVP) Task Force and under the awesome leadership of Co-Chairs, Venessa Collins-Smith and Wendy Flora.
In March 2016 through ISAAC’s YVP Task Force, 40 Kalamazoo County students participated in leadership training where they soon co-facilitated bullying/violence roundtables for peers. Community leaders, educators, public safety officers, clergy and congregations gathered to listen to youth. In July 2016 through a Pretty Lake Camp and ISAAC Partnership, 16 youth participated in social justice evening sessions with dynamic community leaders, clergy, Elected Officials and Public Officials.
Our Kalamazoo County Youth are Agents Of Change! We are excited for this fall as we continue to activate Youth to be leaders, organizers and advocates for our Kalamazoo County Community! Our cohort of 25 youth (and growing) is destined to transform the world. FLFP will offer youth leadership meetings, resident engagement, community projects, field trips to the Michigan State Capital, and community organizing training & conferences.
We invite you to make a tax-deductible donation to the FLFP program for our youth online at http://isaackalamazoo.org/donate/ or by mail: 247 West Lovell St. Kalamazoo, MI 49007
